  • Information
  • A high-quality three-piece Baucher bit from Lippo. The bit has a cheek length of 5 cm and is made of stainless steel.

A three-piece design has two breaking points, allowing the bit to conform optimally to the horse’s anatomy. The central piece lies flat on the horse’s tongue and thus applies even pressure throughout the horse’s mouth, unlike a double-jointed bit where the single joint puts more pressure on the edges of the tongue, the bars, and the roof of the mouth.

Baucher bits provide a more stable feel and sit very still in the horse's mouth, as the cheekpiece and reins are attached to different rings. This also gives the bit a slight leverage effect.

Because they are known for being still in the horse’s mouth, Baucher bits are often recommended for more sensitive or young horses where you want a bit that doesn’t move unnecessarily. Baucher bits can also be a good alternative for riders who usually ride with sharper bits, such as kimblewick bits, and want to transition to a milder one but don’t feel ready for a regular snaffle yet. Baucher and kimblewick are quite similar, but the Baucher is milder – making the transition less noticeable for both horse and rider.

The Baucher bit is considered mild, but it is still sharper than a traditional snaffle since it also applies pressure to the poll in addition to the mouth. We therefore recommend it be used by an experienced rider with soft hands. If you want a milder bit that also stays still in the horse’s mouth, a bit with full cheeks is comparable but less sharp than the Baucher.

The bit’s thickness is 14 mm.
