  • The Eggbutt Snaffle Sweet Iron is a double jointed snaffle with a spiral-shaped roller in the middle. Made of stainless steel and equipped with a blue, steel-blend Sweet Iron coating, which, together with the roller's encouragement of increased tongue activity, stimulates both the chewing process and increases saliva production.

When the Sweet Iron material comes into contact with moisture, air, and heat, an oxidation reaction occurs. The sweet iron coating will then rust, resulting in the bit's surface tasting sweet and becoming easier for many horses to accept. As oxidation occurs, the bit's blue color will fade over time, but the sweet taste of the surface rust will remain.

A double jointed design has two breaking points, which means that the bit can shape itself best according to the horse's own anatomy. The central part will lie flat on the horse's tongue, thus affecting the bit with an even pressure throughout the horse's mouth, unlike a two-part bit whose breaking point places greater pressure on the outside of the tongue and the bars and in the palate.

Bits with fixed Eggbutt rings provide more stability in the horse's mouth compared to a bit with loose rings, which is more flexible and allows the horse to have some control over its position. Bits with fixed rings are usually recommended for young horses, horses in training, or horses having difficulty finding support on the bit. They typically perform better with bits with fixed rings, where they receive more support. However, more experienced horses are often ridden with bits with loose rings, as they provide a quicker release, making them also suitable for beginners on horseback.

    The bit's thickness is 14mm.
