A single jointed bit has one joint and mainly applies pressure to the bars, the outer parts of the tongue, and the roof of the mouth.
Bits with fixed eggbutt rings sit more steadily in the horse’s mouth than bits with loose rings, which are more flexible and allow the horse to influence the bit’s position. Fixed-ring bits are often recommended for young horses, horses in training, or horses that struggle to find contact with the bit. They generally offer better support. However, more experienced horses may benefit from loose-ring bits, as they provide quicker release, making them also well-suited for beginner riders.
