The Double Jointed Novocontact Sensogan D-Ring Eggbutt Ø55 mm from Sprenger is a double jointed eggbutt bit with D-shaped rings and modern novocontact geometry. The mouthpiece is ergonomically designed and forms an oval shape that provides an enlarged contact surface on the tongue during even rein contact. With increased rein aids, the mouthpiece rotates forward, reducing the contact surface and enabling more precise and effective communication. The construction allows direct pressure transfer to the tongue and lower jaw as well as light pressure on the poll.
The double jointed construction combined with the fixed D-rings provides a slight limiting effect and helps the bit lie stably and calmly in the mouth. The design also helps protect the horse’s sensitive lip corners. This model allows direct transmission of rein aids and is designed for horses that may occasionally become strong in the hand but are too sensitive for more severe bits. The bit has a thickness of 14 mm and a ring diameter of 55 mm.
The bit is made from Sensogan, an alloy of copper, manganese, and zinc. The manganese hardens the copper without affecting the natural oxidation process, making it possible to achieve the same oxidation behaviour as Aurigan, despite a lower copper content.
Sensogan bits should be thoroughly cleaned with water after each use and then dried. As the material contains copper, oxidation may cause the bit to darken and lose its shine over time. If necessary, Sprenger Diamond Paste can be used for cleaning and maintenance.
