The rotating ring in the sidepiece reduces impact on the neck and jaw, as pressure is not directly transferred through the reins. The rein can be attached to the large D-ring, which moves independently of the sidepiece, or to the smaller ring for slightly increased impact. The Happy Tongue Straight is a solid mouthpiece with a port that provides tongue relief, but without bending, making it slightly more direct in its effect than the curved variant.
