Straight, flexible pelham bit from Lippo with short shanks. The flexible mouthpiece, which adapts to the horse's movements, is made of UV-stabilized polyurethane and features an embedded steel wire for added durability and safety.
This is a so-called baby pelham – a variation of the traditional pelham bit, but with slightly shorter shanks that provide less leverage. It is still a strong bit, but in a somewhat milder form. The rubber-like coating also gives a different feel in the horse's mouth compared to a standard steel bit.
We recommend pelham bits for experienced riders with a soft and responsive hand, as it requires both sensitivity and knowledge to be used correctly.
Usage
Pelham bits can advantageously be used with double reins, giving the rider the ability to control how much pressure is placed on the snaffle ring versus the leverage. For those who prefer riding with a single rein, various types of connectors can be used to distribute the pressure evenly.
When using a bit with a curb chain, it is crucial that the chain is properly fitted. It should be adjusted so that the bit cannot rotate backward more than about 45 degrees with rein pressure – if the chain is too tight, there is a risk of rubbing and injury, and if too loose, it loses its function and the bit becomes sharper than intended. If in doubt, consult a trainer or other knowledgeable person.
The bit’s thickness is 12–18 mm, with 12 mm at the center of the mouthpiece. The shanks are 106 mm long.
