The Mullen Mouth Loose Ring is a straight snaffle with Cherry Rollers. Made of stainless steel and equipped with a blue, steel-blend Sweet Iron coating, which in turn stimulates the chewing process and increases saliva production.
When the Sweet Iron material comes into contact with moisture, air, and heat, an oxidation reaction occurs. The sweet iron coating will then rust, resulting in the bit's surface tasting sweet and becoming easier for many horses to accept. As oxidation occurs, the bit's blue color will fade over time, but the sweet taste of the surface rust will remain.
Straight bits provide more stability and a consistently even distributed pressure in the horse's mouth compared to, for example, a single jointed snaffle. This bit also has a slight curvature to better fit the horse's mouth.
Bits with loose rings are more flexible for the horse to determine its position compared to a bit with fixed rings, which remains stable in the horse's mouth and thus becomes less flexible for the horse itself. However, loose rings have the advantage, compared to fixed rings, of providing a quicker release, making them very suitable for beginners on horseback. Bits with loose rings are usually recommended for more experienced horses, as young horses, horses in training, or horses having difficulty finding support on the bit often perform better with bits with fixed rings, where they get more support.
The bit's thickness is 14mm.
