A single jointed bit has one joint and mainly applies pressure to the bars, the outer parts of the tongue, and the roof of the mouth. The Lock Up function locks the bit at a certain angle and prevents it from folding as much as a bit without Lock Up.
Loose ring bits are more flexible, allowing the horse to adjust the position of the bit, unlike fixed ring bits which stay steady in the horse’s mouth but offer less flexibility. Loose rings have the advantage of quicker release, which makes them very suitable for beginner riders. However, they are usually recommended for more experienced horses, as young horses, horses in training or horses that struggle to find contact with the bit often benefit more from fixed ring bits that offer greater support.
