A double jointed bit has two joints, allowing it to adapt optimally to the horse’s natural anatomy. The central piece lies flat on the horse’s tongue, distributing pressure evenly throughout the mouth, unlike a single jointed bit where the joint applies more pressure to the outer parts of the tongue, the bars, and the palate. The Lock Up function locks the bit at a certain angle and prevents it from folding as much as a bit without Lock Up.
Loose ring bits are more flexible and allow the horse to influence the bit’s position, unlike fixed ring bits which sit more steadily and offer less flexibility. Loose rings provide quicker release, making them very suitable for beginner riders. However, they are generally recommended for more experienced horses, as young horses, horses in training, or horses that struggle to find contact with the bit often benefit more from fixed ring bits that provide greater support.
