A double jointed bit has two joints, allowing it to conform optimally to the horse’s anatomy. The central part lies flat on the horse’s tongue, distributing pressure evenly across the entire mouth, unlike a single jointed bit where the joint puts more pressure on the outer parts of the tongue, the bars, and the palate.
Loose ring bits are more flexible and allow the horse to influence the position of the bit, unlike fixed ring bits which sit more steadily and offer less flexibility. The advantage of loose rings is quicker release, making them well-suited for beginner riders. However, loose ring bits are generally recommended for more experienced horses, as young horses, horses in training, or those that struggle to find contact with the bit often perform better with fixed ring bits that provide more support.
