The Horseware Micklem Competition bridle in dark brown is made from eco-tanned buffalo leather with stainless steel hardware. It features an anatomical fit with a contoured headpiece that helps relieve pressure on the poll and allows full ear clearance, while the shaped noseband sits higher to protect the nasal bone and reduce interference with facial nerves.
This bridle is engineered to avoid five key pressure points: the poll and ears, the molars and inside the mouth, the infraorbital nerves and lower face, the nasal bones, and the tongue. It includes soft padding, highly adjustable bit straps and the option to use Bit Lift Straps/Bit Clips, offering flexibility across different horses and disciplines.
Washing instructions: Before first use, oil the leather thoroughly to keep it supple and to help prevent drying, cracking or breaking. After the initial treatment, clean regularly with a damp sponge and saddle soap to maintain soft, solid leather. Use warm water to dampen the sponge, squeeze out excess water and wipe all parts of the bridle to remove sweat, dirt and grease. Allow the leather to dry naturally before applying saddle soap to help lift any remaining dirt or grease. Pay particular attention to areas under pressure and exposed to saliva, such as bit straps, the bottom back strap and the reins where they contact the bit. Apply conditioner regularly after cleaning, fully dismantling the bridle when conditioning and using a soft cloth or sponge. Storage instructions: Once clean and dry, reassemble the bridle and loop the reins through the top back strap for storage. A climate-controlled environment is recommended, as dry heat can make leather brittle and humidity can cause mould and mildew. Storing the bridle in a fleece lined bridle bag helps protect it from moisture.
