The horse's lower legs are designed in a way that exposes the tendons to very high stress. However, since there is not much extra supportive tissue in the lower leg and around the tendons, at least not more than is absolutely necessary for their springy elasticity, it is not uncommon for horses to suffer from various types of tendon injuries. And that type of injury often requires a long resting period to heal.
By choosing leg protection of high quality that cover and protect the most delicate parts of the horse's legs and absorb the force from various shocks and impacts, you can reduce the risk of tendon injuries. High-quality leg protection also provide increased stability to both tendons and joints, which in turn reduces the risk of overstretching, overexertion, or misalignment.
The downside, however, is that leg protection, by enclosing the horse's legs, which is also necessary to protect the tendons from shocks and impacts, often trap and retain heat around the horse's legs. Heat that, if it becomes too high, can damage the tendon tissue.
Arma's fetlock boots provide effective protection against shocks and impacts and are designed with both perforated TPG foam, made from recycled material, waffle-woven lining, and extra shock-absorbing EPA reinforcements at the most vulnerable areas. But the difference with the exclusive Oxi-Zone technology is the unique combination of beeswax-shaped Air Motion-3D mesh, targeted ventilation in the outer shell of the protection, and an inner fabric with an open structure. Oxi-Zone guards, therefore, provide, unlike many other tendon guards, 360° ventilation and optimal airflow. They dissipate heat, reduce moisture levels, and simply keep the air circulating around the horse's legs instead of trapping moisture and raising the temperature.
And as if that weren't enough, the ventilated fetlock boots are also equipped with Pierce Proof metal mesh to prevent penetration by sharp objects and debris.
The model with soft, fluffy faux fur minimizes both chafing and provides that luxurious, extravagant feeling - without affecting the fantastic benefits of Oxi-Zone technology in any way. The faux fur is only a trim around the protection, and on the inside, the lining is exactly the same as in the model without faux fur.
The guards are quickly and easily fastened with a convenient non-elastic hook-and-loop closure, making them approved for use in competition.
