BioZinc is a complementary feed for horses containing a highly concentrated combination of organic and inorganic zinc with high bioavailability. The product is formulated to complement the feed ration when its zinc content does not meet the horse's daily requirements or when the horse shows signs of suspected or confirmed zinc deficiency. BioZinc also contains inulin and diatomaceous earth to support efficient nutrient absorption.
Zinc is an essential trace element involved in or activating more than 200 enzymes throughout the body. It plays an important role in maintaining healthy skin, coat, hooves, immune function and normal metabolism. Zinc is particularly important for the formation of new cells and tissues and contributes to the normal metabolism of carbohydrates and proteins.
The horse's zinc requirement increases during periods of intense training and physical exertion, as well as in pregnant and lactating mares. Zinc deficiency may contribute to poor hoof quality, skin problems, hair loss and reduced immune function. However, long-term excessive zinc supplementation should be avoided, as it may interfere with the body's absorption of copper.
BioZinc contains both zinc chelate and zinc sulphate to provide highly available sources of zinc. The formula also includes inulin, a prebiotic fibre derived from chicory that supports a balanced intestinal microbiota and efficient nutrient absorption. Diatomaceous earth complements the formulation as a natural source of silica.
