Gut Balance is a prebiotic supplement developed for horses with sensitive stomachs, loose stools or free fecal fluid (FFL). The product contains prebiotics in the form of both FOS and MOS, which nourish the good bacteria in the intestine and contribute to a balanced intestinal flora as well as well-functioning digestion. A stable and well-balanced intestinal flora also supports the horse’s immune system and general well-being.
The horse gets its energy and nutrition through the microbial fermentation that takes place in the large intestine. The environment in the large intestine is sensitive and imbalance in the intestinal flora can occur, for example, during feed changes, long-term stress, antibiotic treatment or sensitivity to certain roughages. When the balance is disturbed, the amount of good bacteria can decrease while unwanted bacteria increase. By adding prebiotics, the good bacteria can be supported and the intestinal flora can regain better balance.
Gut Balance also contains Maerl, a red algae (Lithothamnium spp) that grows naturally on the seabed. Maerl has a structure that makes it easier for the body to absorb nutrients and contributes to stabilizing the pH balance in the stomach and intestine. The product works both quickly and long-term to support stable digestion and protect the stomach lining, which can reduce the risk of irritation.
Bentonite clay has a high absorption capacity and helps bind and neutralize unwanted substances in the stomach and intestine. This contributes to healthy intestinal function and a more balanced stomach. Vitamins are added to compensate for reduced nutrient absorption in horses with sensitive stomachs or disturbed digestion. The product also contains licorice, which supports digestion and makes the supplement extra tasty.
Gut Balance helps create balance in the intestinal flora and promote the good bacteria, which can improve the horse’s ability to digest feed and contribute to more normal stools. The product can be used both as a daily supplement and as a course during periods when the stomach needs extra support.
