Biotin is a classic supplement that has long been used to support hoof growth in horses. A daily dose of biotin can improve growth and contribute to stronger, healthier hooves over time.
Hoof growth and quality
Biotin has been shown to stimulate hoof growth and help make the hoof wall stronger and more resilient. Horses with brittle, cracked hooves or those competing barefoot may benefit from supplementation.
Poor hoof quality can mean the horn is soft, brittle, or prone to cracking – which can make shoeing difficult and, in the worst cases, lead to lameness.
When is Biotin recommended?
Biotin is recommended as a daily supplement in cases of poor hoof growth. Since it takes about 8–10 months for new horn to grow from coronet to sole, long-term use is usually needed before results are visible.
Biotin is suitable for:
- Horses with poor hoof growth
- Brittle or cracked hooves
- Horses competing barefoot
- In case of hoof cracks
